Plastic Injection Molding FAQ

What's your MOQ for plastic injection molding?

No MOQ limit. First Mold’s quick tooling service supports small-batch trial production. Even if you only purchase the mold from us, we will provide a small quantity of injection‑molded parts free of charge.

Can you sign an NDA before seeing my CAD?

Absolutely. You can send us your own NDA template, or we can use our standard version – we are happy to sign and stamp either one. You can forward your CAD drawings to us after the agreement is fully executed.

Who owns the mold after full payment?

The entire physical mold and all ownership rights belong to you once the final payment is cleared. We normally keep the mold in our custody on your behalf. You can either continue production with us, or ask us to ship the mold to any other facility at any time.

What are your payment terms for tooling vs. production?

For tooling (mold) payments, we typically use a deposit + progress payment + final balance structure. For mass production, we offer monthly payment terms (e.g., net 30/60 days). The exact percentages are negotiable based on your company’s credit rating and the order value.

How to handle design changes after T1 samples?

In some cases, we can accommodate design changes after T1 samples. However, engineering changes will involve mold modification costs and additional trial‑run fees. Once we receive your signed approval, we will proceed with the modifications and resubmit the updated T2 samples. The lead time depends on the specific scope of the change.

Do you provide free mold maintenance during production?

Yes – as long as the mold is in mass production at our factory, all maintenance and repair costs are fully covered by us at no extra charge.

What if parts don't meet tolerance?

If a batch does not meet the confirmed dimensional tolerances, we will provide free replacement parts for that batch. At the same time, we will promptly investigate the root cause and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Can I use my own plastic resin?

We accept consigned materials (customer‑supplied resin). We can also purchase raw materials from the supplier you designate. Please note, however, that if any molding defects arise from your supplied material, we will not be responsible for quality issues caused by the material itself.

How do you guarantee Pantone/RAL color matching?

We use a German‑imported spectrophotometer and follow the international CIE LAB color space standard. We guarantee that the color difference (ΔE) for each shipment batch is ≤ 1.0 – which is virtually invisible to the naked eye. Before each production run, our quality inspectors perform first‑article color checks to ensure consistent batch‑to‑batch color matching within the standard.
