Precision CNC Machining vs. Standard CNC Machining Services
First Mold's precision CNC machining goes far beyond standard machining processes. This service is applied for precision mold making, aerospace and medical protypes.
This service is applied for precision mold making, aerospace and medical prototypes. Precision CNC machining does cost more upfront because it uses advanced multi‑axis machines, special tools, and strict temperature and dust control. But it gives you huge value in return. It eliminates assembly mistakes and ensures every part is exactly the same. That means lower production risks and much lower costs over time.

Applications of Precision CNC Machining Services
Curently, about 31% of our precision machining work is making molds and dies. Another 16% goes to automotive precision parts. The rest of our capacity is used for critical jobs in optical communications, medical device, and aerospace industries.
Mold Components Making
First Mold uses advanced multi-axis machines from GF+, Makinoe Haas to precisely control the mold cavity and core in four key areas: dimensions, shape, position, and surface finish. The accuracy in these areas directly determines the accuracy of the final injection-molded or die-cast parts.

FAQ for Precision CNC Services
What 3D CAD file formats do you need to quote a precision CNC machining project?
We recommend sending us 3D solid or surface models in STEP (.stp/.step) or IGES (.igs/.iges) format. If you provide a different type of 3D file, we may need to ask you for more dimensional details later on.
How long does it take to get an accurate quote after submitting drawings?
First Mold’s senior engineering team can typically provide a detailed quotation with initial DFM (Design for Manufacturability) suggestions within 24 hours. For especially complex parts that require multi-axis mill-turn machining or involve special, difficult-to-machine materials, we will respond within 2 working days at most.
What does your DFM analysis include?
Our precision CNC machining service provides a “precision-grade” DFM analysis. This includes feasibility of tight tolerances (down to ±0.005 mm), manufacturability of micro-features (thin walls, deep cavities, micro-holes, etc.), material stress and deformation prediction, and design suggestions for cost reduction and efficiency.
Can you precision-machine specialty materials?
Absolutely. First Mold has the proven capability to machine:
Superalloys: Inconel 718/625, Hastelloy C276, Waspaloy, etc.
Titanium Alloys: Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), Grade 2, and many aerospace-grade titaniums, expertly handling challenges like tool deflection, springback, and work hardening.
High-performance Polymers: PEEK (including 30% glass-fiber or carbon-fiber reinforced), PEI (Ultem), PPS, etc., delivering precision parts free of burrs and stress cracking.
Do you allow customers to supply their own specially certified raw materials for precision contract manufacturing?
Yes, we have always supported customers providing their own materials. The process requires you to supply the complete material certificates (Mill Certificates) and batch/heat numbers in advance. Once the material arrives at First Mold, we will carry out incoming inspection (which may include XRF composition checks, mechanical property testing, etc., based on our agreement).
Are your surface finishing processes done in-house or by certified external partners?
At First Mold’s own facility, we can directly handle surface finishing like polishing, laser engraving/marking, screen printing, and powder coating. For processes like electroplating and anodizing, we fully rely on external partners with over a decade of collaboration, who hold professional certifications such as Nadcap, ISO 13485, or AS9100.
What is your resolution and replacement process if the precision parts we receive fail our incoming inspection and do not meet the drawing tolerances?
We pursue a “zero defect” quality goal, and all precision parts leave our factory with a full dimensional report from a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) or video measuring system. If you confirm any out-of-tolerance condition during your inspection, First Mold will take the following steps:
Please contact our quality engineer within 24 hours of discovering the issue and provide your inspection data. We will immediately quarantine the same batch and start a root cause review.
Once confirmed as our responsibility, without waiting for the parts to be returned, we will immediately and with the highest priority re-manufacture conforming parts free of charge under the fastest lead time, and cover all shipping costs.
The non-conforming parts can be returned to us for a thorough root cause analysis, or scrapped according to your instructions. This incident will be recorded in the product’s permanent process control file (PFMEA update) to systematically prevent the same issue from recurring.
What are your standard lead times for rapid prototyping and low-volume production of precision CNC parts?
Rapid prototyping: Standard lead time is 4-7 working days.
Low-volume production: Standard lead time is 7-15 working days.
Do you offer assembly services for precision CNC parts?
At the moment, we do not offer full product assembly. If the assembly process is very simple, we may be able to do it for you.
